The Mayor of Souderton Borough has declared a snow emergency beginning at 7 pm on Saturday, January 24th. In light of the predicted severe weather, we wanted to share a few reminders of how you can be a good neighbor during large snow events!
* If you reside on a snow emergency route, parking on the street is prohibited. No matter where you reside in the borough, parking off-street is incredibly helpful to our crew. Short on parking but want to help? Residents can utilize the municipal parking lots on Main Street, Chestnut Street, Railroad Street, and at Community Pool.
* Clear snow and ice from sidewalks within 24 hours of the last snowfall. Never dispose of snow from your sidewalk or property into the roadway as it is illegal and can cause hazards for crews and those traveling.
* Adopt a hydrant! If you have a fire hydrant near your home, take a few moments to clear the area to ensure that emergency responders can access it if it is needed.
* Be sure to keep dryer and heating vents to the outside clear of snow.
* Keep an eye on your neighbors and lend a hand to those who may not be able to manage a large snow event.
* Pace yourself and take care when shoveling snow or working outside.
* If you are able to, stay home! Our crew will be out plowing and salting to try to keep the roads open. Staying off the roads gives our crew the time and space they need to clean up and roads clear for emergency responders. If you need to travel, use caution and provide 300 feet to plow and salt trucks.
* Be patient! We are all doing the best we can to get the roads open and ensure the safety of our community members. If you see a member of our crew or a first responder working during the storm, be sure to give them a smile and a thank you! Please do your part by being a good neighbor!
