Police Department Administrative Assistant Job Description:

The Police Department Administrative Assistant is the first point of contact for those interacting with the Souderton Police Department. Additionally, they work to support the Police Chief, Command Staff, and Police Officers. They also work to support and help maintain the basic functions of the Police Department. This position requires a high level of professionalism and confidentiality, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to work precisely but quickly, and the ability to work independently. This position also requires the ability to communicate excellently and with individuals with diverse backgrounds. The individual working as the Police Department Administrative Assistant should be patient, friendly, welcoming, and helpful to anyone who they may interact with. The Police Department Administrative Assistant is instrumental in helping to keep the day-to-day operations of the Police Department running smoothly and helping assist those who require the Police Department’s support. 

Wage: $22-$26/ hourly

Primary

  • Answer Phones and Direct Calls
  • Support Police Chief, Command Staff, and Officers
  • Process Daily Mail
  • Issuance of select permits
  • Greeting and assisting those seeking assistance of the Police Department
  • Clerical Support
  • Other Duties as Assigned

Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Two to three years of experience in an office or administrative role
  • Prior Experience with Law Enforcement Administration is a Plus

Skillset:

  • Friendly and upbeat personality
  • Excellent communication skills- written and verbal
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite and ability to learn new technology/ programs
  • Proficient with Social Media Management
  • Proficiency with Canva
  • Independent problem-solving skills
  • Conflict-resolution skills and self-control
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work within deadlines
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Bi-Lingual is Preferred but not Required

Physical Environment:

  • The duties of this job may include physical activities such as reaching, standing, walking, grasping, talking, hearing/listening, seeing/observing, and performing repetitive motions.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
  • This job is performed in an office environment.

  • Time Pressure/ Fast-Paced Environment (urgent deadlines, multiple tasks at once)
  • Working under distractions (interruptions including telephone calls, customers, other staff, expedited tasks)
