The new and improved Univest Grand Prix bike course will keep racers in Souderton for the majority of the race.
When the 2010 Univest Grand Prix and Community Expo comes to town this weekend Saturday, September 11, be ready for an exciting new experience with more opportunities to watch the cyclists than ever before! More than 150 professional riders from over a dozen countries will compete, and the race will feature live television coverage on WFMZ-69.
This year, the 83-mile race consists of 11 laps of a 5.8-mile, figure-8 course through the roads of Souderton, Telford, and Franconia. Racers will then compete the 5 final finishing laps on a 3.8-mile circuit in Souderton and Telford.
The Univest Grand Prix is one of only 13 Union Cyclist International ranked professional road cycling competitions for men in the United States. Spectators will have the opportunity to take shuttles to various points along the course, before returning to the finish line for the dramatic race conclusion!
Beginning with the 2010 Univest GP Cyclosportif from 8 to 10 a.m., amateurs riding the race course will raise money for the Penn Foundation. In 100k or 60k races, friends and neighbors can experience the same challenge and excitement as the pros. Following Cyclosportif, children will get their big wheels, tricycles, or two-wheelers on the starting line for the 13th Annual Kids Races.
This year’s Community Expo will be expanded into the new Main Street Plaza and feature something for everyone. Local business and visiting exhibitors will sell a wide variety of merchandise and delicious food. The expo’s Kids Zone includes inflatable bounces, face painting, clowns, and the ever popular chalk walk.
If you live on Main Street or are attending a party there, be ready for a day of quick action. Visit www.stmainst.org for tips on how to watch the bike race so you and your guests understand what’s happening!
