In just over a year Souderton plans to kick off the 2011 swimming season with a big splash at the grand re-opening of the Souderton Pool. Crews from Franconia Township began demolition on the main bathhouse at the Souderton Community Pool on Tuesday, May 11.
A track excavator (pictured) was donated to Souderton Borough by C & S Lawn & Landscape and is operated by Franconia Township employees. P K Moyer & Sons is working with Souderton and Franconia to aid in hauling wood debris for disposal by Waste Management.
Crews from Souderton Borough, Franconia Township, and Telford Borough will continue to work on concession stand and filer house demolition projects throughout May. Additionally, the current pool deck and former tot pool will be removed to prepare the site for construction work that is scheduled to begin in August 2010.
Bids for renovation on the pool have been advertised, and all interested bidders will have to attend a mandatory pre-construction meeting on Wednesday, May 19. All bids will be opened and are due by June 3.
At the end of May, 8,000 Make Your Splash campaign community mailers will be sent to homes in the Indian Valley area.
Board member and pool campaign board chairman Jeffery Gross is confident that residents will be able to swim with their children, jump off the diving board, and slip down a new water slide at the updated Souderton Pool by Memorial Day 2011 if the entire community commits to participating in additional fundraising efforts.
In the coming months the pool committee will advertise additional fundraisers and events that will aim to secure the additional funding needed to keep the pool re-opening date on track.
